22nd February 2010

I shall be at Enterprise House on Thursday instead of Tuesday this week.

Francis Hall

Dear Frances Hall

Shropshire Mind is a mental health charity run by volunteers who befriend those in times of need, personal duress and loss. We also offer education and personal support for those going through periods of mental and emotional discomfort in their lives.

I'm organising a fund-raising charity walk for Shropshire Mind that is taking place on Saturday 15 May 2010 and which starts from the Craven Arms Discovery Centre where we will be based.  Monies raised will help with the expense of maintaining facilities in Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Whitchurch and in starting projects in other communities throughout the county.

Last year's inaugural walk went well and we wish to raise the event's profile further for this year.  Publicity is therefore key in alerting people to what we're doing and encouraging them to take part on the day.  With a longer lead-in time this year I've been contacting parish and village newsletters and magazines to place the following copy over several editions:-

'With each mile raise a pile for mental health charity, Shropshire Mind, on Saturday 15 May 2010.  Based at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms you can choose between 3 walks with stunning scenery along the Shropshire Way.  It's a great day out for all the family.  For further information and to download registration and sponsorship forms, please visit
www.shropshiremind.org or call us on 01743 368647.'

I also attach an A5 flyer.

To date I've had commitments from 20 journals to publish and I want to reach out more widely by way of getting people involved.  I understand you or someone in the council community section is in regular contact with editors and wondered if you might be able to pass on details of our event.

If you'd like further details, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely
Susan Morgan

GRANTS AVAILABLE FOR LOCAL VOLUNTARY GROUPS

Please find attached EOI and Guidance Notes for the 2010/11 round of the Sustainable Development Fund.  Do read the Guidance Notes carefully as the criteria for funding are very specific.  If you are interested in this fund you must first contact Cath Landles at the AONB before submitting an EOI.

Please also note the following:
  • SDF has been considerably reduced for 2010-11, so competition for funds is high.
  • Priority will be given to first time applicants, projects from the eastern side of the AONB, projects that meet SDF and AONB Management Plan priorities  and the sustainable development criteria.
  • Grants range from £1,000 - £5,000.
  • If you are invited to full application, the deadline for submitting your completed application is March 10th 2010.
  • The SDF panel will meet on March 24th to consider and award grants.
